This show was in many ways a disaster but was in the most important way (at least for us) not a disaster in that lots of terrific folks turned out
who enthusiastically fed us wonderful applause throughout our rather lenghty set. After changing her mind back and forth about four
times, Liz Faucett (our only other local) cancelled on the day of the show. The advanced tickets that were supposed to be made for us
never got made which led to a decision to take away any door charge. With no agreement for a cut of the bar, this left the touring band
pretty much screwed on getting any kind of money. Then the police sent in an underaged guy who sneakily
bought beer through someone else and then provided the cops an oportunity to "bust" Bailey's for serving minors, thus costing them more
in fines than they'd ever make in a night and also making them regret allowing our show to be 18+. Cops aside, it's doubtful we'd ever
play there again as the place wasn't set up well at all for music and the clueless manager seemed to think it was a good idea to play
terrible rap as loud as possible to draw a crowd in from off the street for an acoustic indie rock show. It's no surprise that all but
two people who were present before the show left as soon as it began. Thankfully, we had enough folks there to make it still feel full.
Our set (not in this order): Gathering Your Bones; Mountain Goat; So Long; Woe My; So Are We; What Is Right?; Growwwler;
Wilmington; The Coastline Is Moving South; The Ballad of William; Rowboat; That's a Moor... Eh?;
One True Word (a TATLMTTW cover);

Sean was sick so this ended up being a skim show and also left us flying by the seat of our pants trying to
pull of the Captain set as a three-piece. Seth, Mickensey & Laura Conroy all made significant efforts to come
out to the show which was especially appreciated given the lack of attention paid by most anyone else in what
could barely be called attendance. Gary Eddy did perform one of the most entertaining sets any of us had seen
in a long time, though, as he humorously combined a ukulele & banjo musical performance with an awkwardly comedic
cooking show.

It seems like many all ages shows consist almost entirely of a certain age group in attendance even though anyone is technically allowed to come.
Lots of places that focus on getting underaged kids in seem to have trouble attracting adults. On the flipside of that coin, it seems
younger folks aren't too keen on hanging out where their parents do. This show was a wonderful exception! There were ample kids a decade
younger than us listening just as intently as people decades older. The frappes served up by Jiving Java were delicious and we received a great
reaction from the audience. While our original plan of a three-day miniature tour failed, this one-shot deal to NC and back was in all ways an
absolute success! As an aside, it took us far too long to make a return visit to the Hickory area since first getting acquainted with Laura, Natasha and their
neck of the woods. We hope to have a much quicker turnaround time in the future!

the man. Thanks again to him & Eric (the store owner) for facilitating great things and affording us the chance to be part of it all. The Golden

Maxine's treated us like rock stars. They had a VIP room, which they adored referring to as such, where bands were given exclusive
acess to sit overlooking the entire venue from a scandalously dim-lit room full of cozy seating and topped off with free food and
drinks. Kevin, the owner, spent a lot of time chatting with Tim about his philosophies on various things including how to run his and his wife,
Agnes' place, where he adamantly and actively puts bands first...always. Amber, the bartender, Sarah, the waitress, and Laura at the door all held to
his standards quite spectacularly. The icing on the cake was their quirky sound man, Jake (who will probably be peeved at us for using names
if he ever reads this) being the most lively guy in a sound booth ever, bursting forth with Arsenio Hall chants to punctuate every song.
This was also the one place on tour we Couchsurfed and Cherie epitomized the CS way as our hostess. The next day we went all touristy on the
town, exploring some old bath houses and eating a down-home meal at the very southern but also quite vegeterian-friendly Granny's Kitchen.

A day off was much needed and we got a luxuriously relaxing one at Jenny's aunt Carol's place in Kansas City. With our sanity at least partially
regained, we were ready for a double-header and made a heck of a day out of Arkansas. Fayetteville seemed like a place we should've
spent more time in, but alas we couldn't as we had to rush off to Hot Springs. In our short time there we were at the receiving end
of some substantial acts of generosity and kindness from Michael at Sound Warehouse who sent us off with all kinds of goodies. Jenny
snagged us some mega-fancy cupcakes from Bliss Cupcake Cafe, where she forgot her camera, and off we went to the land of bath houses!

Chanute! \m/ The streets of Chanute, KS have the smooothest cobble of any town today. This was our most intimate show and also a whole
ton of fun. What's happening in Chanute is exactly the kind of thing that refreshes you when you're broke and haggard and wondering if
anything you do is worthwhile. The fact is that people out there are making good stuff happen, even in the middle of nowhere, and it
rules. Thanks especially to Chelsie and Tim for feeding us and hosting the show, and thanks to everyone else who made this small show
so great to be a part of including Kylie, Marilynn and Micaela.
PS The Garden of Eden in Lucas, KS is one of the coolest things you
can lay your eyes (and hands) upon. Only about 450 people live in Lucas, but the town is home to many a worthwhile site including the
aforementioned National Historic Landmark and The World's Largest Collection of the World's Smallest Versions of the World's Largest

The Laughing Goat is a very enjoyable and warm place. Our baristas for the night, Jared & Lauren, and AJ, running sound, were
all incredibly nice. A very strange and unfortunate exchange between Todd and AJ led to Seamonster not playing, but it did
afford us a chance to play a Grey Milk set. There was some awkwardness but we recovered alright and had some fun playing. We got to see
our friend Hannah who happened to be visiting Colorado at the same time as us, though she did much more snow shoeing. After the show ended
and the dust settled we drove out of the snow and the mountains into vast flatness and then spent the night at an Econo Lodge in
Oakley, KS courtesy of Jacques Pettigreaux.

After spending a day off traipsing around the L.A. area at the Santa Monica Pier and Amoeba Records, then the night in Las Vegas,
we were re-energized for the trip to Colorado. On the way I acquired a new cup at Goodwill- a pretty but poor, leaky substitute-
and we decimated innumerable tumbleweeds. The scenery was gorgeous, and somehow we managed to show up late for the show like total
douchebags. It seemed not to be a problem though as everyone at the house was exceptionally nice. We thought at first that they
were just a uniquely friendly bunch who were perhaps sharing a good booze buzz. Turns out that everyone was in fact blitzed on acid. There
was tons of dancing, hugs and totally hilarious dialogue, but being the only five sober kids in a house full of hallucinating small-townies
was...something. It seemed everyone spent their last dime on booze and drugs so we walked away with about six dollars almost entirely
in coins. Still, Gabe, who set up the show, was great and the show was a really fun time although we're probably the only
people who'll remember it.

Oculist did not disappoint us after all of our anticipation. We got to see ample friends and family and Billy from Anchor Tapes even
filmed the Captain #1 set. Thanks to Chad for putting us up for the night. His small but stylish abode seemed straight out of a

Thanks to Irene, Mari, Gordon, and especially Todd for hosting the whle shebang. It was Doctor Nurse's last show for a long time, perhaps
forever, as babies were on the horizon for its members. All kinds of shenanigans occurred inside while outside a pleasant fire burned
all night functioning quite well for some as "Caveman TV." After the show ended, absurd, inebriated, costumed dances to Peaches were in
abundance and let us not forget the pre-show dinner of champions at Cafe 7. Cafe 7 is essentially a family's front yard/patio. The dad is
the cook and his daughter the waitress. Their short menu is all you could ask for: amazing food at a very cheap price. And their
homemade salsa will pwn you.

En route from Taos, we had to stop for an oil change where we discovered two of our tires were threadbare and needed replacing. After a complex
series of events to get that taken care of, I lost my beloved cup to the on ramp of the interstate. The tragic event was the source of many
laughs for all who weren't me... I loved that cup. I still do. I always will. Despair ensued. Still we pressed on and eventually reached Phoenix.
The Dressing Room gets its name from its former use as dressing room for a strip club with an alternative approach. 'Twas a cozy space,
and the show went decently. Many friends made it out including fellow Masshole, Patrice, which was nice. Todd's buddy Benji let us stay at
his place and was exceptionally kind to us.

Nate relocated this show from the Seco Pearl in Arroyo Seco de Taos out of concern for a large enough capacity after combining our
show with Zoe's- a move which proved to be the right one. The show went rather well, with a potluck and fireplace to boot, though
the group of us couldn't seem to shake the feeling that something was off about the whole night. Perhaps it was the excercise station
taking up half of the stage. Lack of sleep combined with arriving in snowy Taos after spending the better
part of the day traversing through sweaty west Texas likely contributed. Taos being bizarrely vacant before the tourists hit for
ski season probably also helped. Of course the abundance of characters certainly didn't hurt either. When stripped down to just the
locals, Taos certainly has personality. Nothing beats some guy pulling up in a van full of 15 lackadaisical dogs dangling out the
windows like gangsters while he tells you about that time back in '83 when he lived in NY and spent his days smoking peyote in front
of the twin towers before asking, "Who's playing? The Rolling Stones? Oh no, the Square Stones, right? The Square Stones!" with the
most cliche Mexican-American accent you could imagine. Despite the oddities, Nate and Stella let us crash in their space above
the Seco Pearl while they spent the night in their yurt. We had a grand old time hanging out with Jonathan and Emily who drove all
the way up from Albuquerque just to see us, though missing our set by just a few minutes because Taos is near impossible to navigate
when you aren't a local. We had some swell chats, shared some tasty local brews courtesy of Hawes, and became enamored with the most
mellow cat in history whom we dubbed floppy cat. The next morning we shared a delightful crack-of-dawn breakfast at the Taos Cow with
our pals before embarking on the long journey to AZ.

Miscommuincations led to the open mic not starting early. It's unclear whether or not that would've made much of difference with how
the show went for us. The place was packed when we arrived. Like sardines. As in the fire department would have shut the place down
on sight if they witnessed how crammed it was. People loved their poetry and musical open mic. Unfortunately for us, a vast majority
of those in attendance had no interest in seeing anything new that wasn't coming from their friends. Jason and Chris were great to us,
however, and we were fed and drinked quite satisfactorily. We played a short set where Tim experimented for the first and last time on
this trip with backing us up on drums. Then we headed off to the Sleep Inn for a free night's stay courtesy of Tim's frequent sleeper
points.

We had some fantastic shows on this tour, but Hank's unanimously took the cake for everyone as the top of the list. Enough great things can't be

Earline- Kathy by birth. Thanks and happy howdy dos also to Robyn Miller, Jalesa Daniels, Freeman, Alex Dickens, Dustin, Tyler, Heidi,

you want a big, blabbery, happy earful and an overly enthusiastic recommendation of where to play.

Mokah is part of a seemingly rad art space called Life in Deep Ellum. This show was by far the most ignored we were on the entire trip.
There was a pretty healthy amount of folks there, but I wonder why any of them paid for a show it seemed impossible for them to care less about.
Thankfully, Mimo, who runs the place, was a pretty terrific guy who gave us some super-tasty beverages. Todd also had a couple friends in town
who let us stay in their totally cool loft which doubles as their recording space. Some good pizza before bed was a great way to make us feel better
about a night of neglect and sleep on a wood floor. Side note: if you ever get the chance, you should go get some amazing food at Freebirds World
Burrito. They have some epic tummy-nums and totally nice people working there. We're told they'll be getting all big and fancy soon, so
hopefully they'll maintain their goodness upon expansion and you'll be able to have a similarly awesome experience at a franchise not necessarily in Texas.

Everyone at the Ghost Room was great, especially Christine, who was probably the nicest and one of the best people we've ever had
run live sound for any of us. The room had a great atmosphere with classy lighting, nifty tables built around trees outside,
and a friendly staff. Unfortunately, as anyone who's ever toured knows is too often the case in cities like Austin who are spoiled
by a flourishing music scene, the attendance was rather- dare I say- ghostly. The Lennings cancelled on site which certainly didn't
help things at all. Apparently one of their members blew out his knee while loading in and they had to rush him to the hospital. If
that was indeed true, we send our condolences, though it would've been nice for them to speak to us at all in any way besides a short
e-mail days after the show. Makes us wonder if perhaps the empty room hurt more than the dude's knee so they bailed. We did get to
see some great friends and meet some of their friends at least. Cristal let us crash her new pad and her cats welcomed us by peeing
on me while I slept. Thanks, kitties!

The dudes from Johnny Credit were pretty swell and also the only people besides us to show up to the venue on time at all.
So as to not damage anyone's ego too badly, everyone blamed the near empty room on the Texas A&M football game happening in town.
The show was more or less a bust, but was bookended by an awesome wiffle ball game with John Paul earlier in the day and royal treatment
from Tim's sister Jen and her husband, Lupe. They cooked us a wonderful breakfast the next morning complete with homemade blueberry syrup
and then treated us to some mind-blowing fajitas for lunch. In case the food wasn't enough, Tim's adorable nieces, Tinley and Gianna,
lifted our spirits even higher as we crammed back into the Kia Rondo and headed for Austin.
